Most visitors to Krka National Park see Skradinski Buk, walk the loop, and leave. That is a shame, because the park stretches far upriver and its two quietest, strangest places — an island monastery and a set of cascades called the Necklaces — are further north, where the tour buses rarely bother to go.
This day covers all three. Because you have your own car and driver, you are not tied to a boat schedule or a coach departure: you decide how long to stay at the main waterfall, whether to take the park boat out to Visovac, and when to move on to Roški Slap. The driver simply follows your plan and waits at each stop.

The itinerary
3 stops, one day, no schedule to keep. The times below are what most guests take — stay longer anywhere and we simply shorten the next one.
Skradinski Buk
about 2–3 hours
The best-known waterfall in Croatia after Plitvice: seventeen travertine steps spread across roughly 400 metres, with the water dropping around 45 metres in total. A wooden boardwalk runs a loop through the woods and over the pools, past restored watermills that show how the river was used for centuries.
The full circuit takes a comfortable two hours at a slow pace. We drop you at whichever entrance suits the day — Lozovac, with its shuttle bus down to the falls, or Skradin, where you arrive by park boat along the river. Tell us which you prefer, or let the driver pick the quieter one on the day.
Visovac Island Monastery
about 2 hours, if you take the boat
A small wooded island sitting in the middle of a widening of the Krka, with a Franciscan monastery and church that have been there since the 15th century. The monastery library holds an illuminated manuscript and a set of Turkish weapons, and the monks still live there. It is one of the most photographed places in Croatia and, up close, one of the calmest.
Important: Visovac can only be reached by the national park's own boat excursion, which runs to a fixed timetable from Skradinski Buk and from Stinice near Roški Slap, and is a separate ticket you buy inside the park. We plan the driving around the departure you want, but the boat itself is the park's, not ours. If the timetable does not work out on your day, the island is still a fine view from the shore.
Roški Slap
about 1–1.5 hours
Upstream from Visovac the river spreads out into a broad set of cascades that locals call the Necklaces — dozens of small falls and travertine pools strung across the valley floor. It is far quieter than Skradinski Buk, and in the right light it is arguably prettier.
There are restored watermills you can walk through, a footbridge across the river, and a long stone staircase climbing the cliff to Oziđana Pećina, a cave with traces of neolithic settlement and a view back down over the whole valley. The stairs are optional — the cascades themselves are flat and easy.
How the day works
The whole point of a private day is that you stop thinking about transport. Here is exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.
We collect you at the door
At the time you choose, from your hotel, apartment or villa in Šibenik, Skradin, Vodice, Primošten, Split, Zadar or Trogir. No meeting point, no walking to a bus stop.
The car is yours alone
A clean, air-conditioned vehicle for your group only. We pick nobody else up along the way and there is no group to keep pace with.
At every stop, the driver waits
He parks and stays with the car while you look around, for as long as you agreed — and you have his number if you want longer. Nothing leaves without you.
Back at your door
Whenever you are ready. If you want to change the plan halfway through the day, just say so — the itinerary is a suggestion, not a contract.
Things you will never have to think about on one of our days: parking, shuttle timetables, which bus goes back, whether the last connection has left, or how far the car park is from the entrance. You will need to buy your own entrance tickets and think about lunch — everything else is the driver's problem, not yours.
When to go, and how to avoid the queues
Krka is at its fullest in spring, when snowmelt swells the river, and at its greenest in May and June. July and August are the busiest by a wide margin, and the park operates a daily visitor cap in peak season — so an early start matters more than the date.
The practical advice is simple: leave early. A departure around 7:30–8:00 gets you to Skradinski Buk before the coaches, and you walk the boardwalk in relative peace. By late morning the same loop is shoulder to shoulder. Because you set the departure time yourself, this is the easiest win on the whole trip.
September and October are the quiet favourites — warm, uncrowded, and the water is still high enough to look good. Note that swimming at Skradinski Buk has not been permitted for several years, so do not plan the day around a swim.
Practical information
- Park tickets
- Bought by you, at the entrance or online in advance. Prices vary sharply between high and low season, and in peak months buying online is the safer option because of the daily visitor limit.
- Boat to Visovac
- A separate park excursion with fixed departure times, bought inside the park. Not included in our price and not something we can reserve for you.
- Walking
- Several kilometres of flat boardwalk over the day. The staircase at Roški Slap is the only real climb, and it is optional.
- Food
- There are cafés at both Skradinski Buk and Roški Slap, and good restaurants in Skradin if you would rather eat properly. Say the word and we will stop there.
- Swimming
- Not permitted at Skradinski Buk. Bring a swimsuit only if you plan a separate beach stop on the way home — which we are happy to add.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Krka National Park tickets included?
No. The price covers the vehicle, the driver and the waiting time only. You buy park entrance tickets yourself, at the gate or online. We keep it that way deliberately: park prices change by season, and you should pay them at cost rather than with our margin added on top.
Can we visit Visovac on this trip?
Yes, but on the park's terms. Visovac is reached only by the national park's own boat excursion, which runs to a fixed timetable and is a separate ticket bought inside the park. We plan the driving around the departure you want. If the timetable does not fit your day, you still get the view of the island from the shore at Roški Slap.
How long do we spend at each stop?
As long as you like — that is the whole idea. As a guide, most guests spend two to three hours at Skradinski Buk, around two hours on the Visovac boat excursion, and an hour or so at Roški Slap, which adds up to about eight hours door to door. Stay longer somewhere and we simply shorten the next stop.
Which park entrance do you use?
Whichever suits your day. Lozovac has the shuttle bus down to the falls and is usually quickest; Skradin means arriving by park boat along the river, which is slower but more scenic. Tell us your preference when you book, or leave it to the driver to choose the quieter one on the day.
Is this better than a group tour?
It is a different thing. A group tour includes a guide and often the tickets, but it also includes a fixed schedule, a coach and forty other people. Here you get the car, the driver and the waiting — you set the departure time, you choose how long to stay, and you buy your own tickets. If you want commentary from a licensed guide, a group tour is the better fit.
